Samsung Crystal UHD U8000H 55" Review (UK): Affordable 4K Done Right

★★★★☆Our rating: 4/5•Researched review•By Smart Gear Vault•Updated 19 October 2026

Quick verdict

Samsung's 2026 Crystal UHD U8000H is a sensible, good-value way to get a big 4K smart TV. You get bright, colourful 4K, HDR10+, every major streaming app and handy casual gaming features. Don't expect deep OLED-style blacks, 4K 120Hz gaming or big sound, but for everyday TV it's great value.

About £349 as of 19 October 2026 on Amazon UK

We've updated this review from the 2024 DU7100 to the 2026 Crystal UHD U8000H (UE55U8000HK), which is the current 55-inch Crystal UHD model on Amazon UK. Samsung also sells close relatives such as the U7020H, U8020H and U8075H, so check the exact model number before you buy.

Who is it for?

A 55-inch Crystal UHD suits families, students and anyone upgrading from an older HD TV who mainly watches streaming, live TV and sport. It also makes a good second TV. Film fans and gamers who want OLED contrast or 4K 120Hz should look at the LG C6 or Sony BRAVIA 8 II instead.

Key specs

  • Model: UE55U8000HK on Amazon UK (Samsung UK lists it as UE55U8000HKXXU), 2026

  • Processor: Crystal Processor 4K with 4K upscaling
  • HDR: HDR10+; PurColour, Colour Booster, UHD Dimming; Filmmaker Mode (no Dolby Vision)
  • Sound: 20W 2 channel with Object Tracking Sound Lite, Q-Symphony and Adaptive Sound

  • Connections: 3 HDMI (one with eARC), 1 USB-A, Ethernet, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3
  • Size and weight: 1224.6 x 707.8 x 76.6mm without stand; 9.9kg (10.2kg with stand); VESA 200 x 200
  • Energy and support: Energy class F; Samsung UK lists security updates until 31 December 2031

Picture quality

The Crystal Processor 4K upscales HD channels and streams, and PurColour gives a bright, colourful image that works well in a typical living room. HDR10+ is a bonus at this price. This is an LED panel without full-array local dimming, so blacks look greyer than an OLED in dark scenes. That matters more for late-night films than for daytime TV and sport.

Smart features and sound

Tizen is quick and has Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV, NOW and hundreds of free channels on Samsung TV Plus, plus AirPlay and Google Cast for sharing from your phone. Some owners of 2026 Samsung TVs reported in early October that BBC iPlayer was missing. The BBC's list of supported TVs, which we checked on 19 October 2026, now includes the UE55U8000HKXXU, so make sure the TV is updated if you can't see it. At 20W the sound is fine rather than impressive, and owner reviews often mention weak speakers and a small remote.

Gaming

Auto Low Latency Mode switches to Game mode automatically, and VRR helps reduce screen tearing. Samsung Gaming Hub lets you stream games without a console, though you'll need a subscription and a controller. HDMI is limited to 4K 60Hz, so it can't do the 4K 120fps modes on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Great value 4K for about £349
  • HDR10+ support
  • Fast Tizen platform with lots of free content
  • AirPlay, Google Cast and voice assistant support
  • Security updates promised until 2031

Cons

  • 50Hz panel, no native 4K 120Hz gaming
  • No local dimming, so blacks look greyer
  • Basic 20W sound
  • Only three HDMI ports, all 4K 60Hz

UK price

On 19 October 2026 it was about £349 on Amazon UK (list price £379), sold by Amazon. Check the current price on Amazon UK before you buy.

Verdict

The Samsung Crystal UHD U8000H is a sensible, good-value 4K TV for most living rooms. It's bright, simple to use and packed with apps, with HDR10+ and handy gaming extras. It can't match OLED contrast, 120Hz gaming or a soundbar, so it gets four stars.

FAQs

Is the Samsung U8000H good for gaming?

It's fine for casual gaming, with Auto Low Latency Mode, VRR and Gaming Hub. HDMI tops out at 4K 60Hz, so it's not ideal for competitive PS5 or Xbox Series X play.

Does the Samsung U8000H support Dolby Vision?

No. It supports HDR10+, but not Dolby Vision.

Does the Samsung U8000H have BBC iPlayer?

Some owners of 2026 Samsung TVs reported in early October 2026 that iPlayer was missing. The BBC's supported TV list, checked on 19 October 2026, includes the UE55U8000HKXXU. Update the TV's software if the app isn't showing.

Which model is this review based on?
